Colour  -  rich magenta melting into a subtle grey-blue, a burnt orange contrasting against a deep indigo.  Perspective - a garden in soft focus,

trees and fields creating a pattern on the canvas. Shape - a  cup or bowl highlighted with colour or a simple line. All these elements are in Karen’s

thoughts as she starts a piece of work. Letting the painting grow from a few direct sweeps of the brush or choice of colour.

Of her work the artist says: "Originally a textile designer I now paint full time. I work mainly in acrylic and mixed media, on canvas, board or paper.

The main inspiration for my work comes from the surrounding landscape, the coast, my garden. Simple everyday objects, a cup or jug, a table or

chair are the starting point for a piece of work. For me though, the colour, texture, mark making and a sense of space becomes the main focus and

influence in a painting."
